Angina - Chest Pain

Angina and Chest Pain

Angina is caused by a build up of plaque in the arteries that supply blood to the heart. The Chest pain associated with Angina is a crushing and squeezing type of chest pain and not to be mistaken for a common type of chest pain which is caused by a muscular strain or injury to the chest or back areas.

Another way of diagnosing between muscular pain and angina pain is to look for signs of chest pain during physical activity, it is more likely to be a heart related matter if it happens during this time as the heart needs more blood and oxygen during physical exercise and therefore this puts it under more strain which may show as chest pain

The crushing or squeezing sensation is caused when the heart is not getting enough blood and oxygen, chest pain tends to rise from below the breastbone and may radiate up to the shoulder, arm and jaw. The pain usually increases for around 15 minutes and then it usually reaches a peak and starts to decline

Conventional Medicine can help to lessen the actual chest pain but they do not do much to solve the underlying problem. Vitamins, minerals & other Supplements may help to improve the condition or at least stop it from getting worse

Supplements that may help with Angina symptoms:

    • Vitamin C can help to prevent cell damage and aids the repair of damaged arteries
    • Vitamin E helps prevent cell damage and blocks the oxidation of bad cholesterol which is the initial step in the build up of plaque
    • Heart disease has been found in people with who have low levels of vitamin E as well as the mineral magnesium
    • Arginine an amino acid forms nitric acid which helps to relax the artery walls
    • Carnitine allows heart muscle cells to use energy in a more efficient way
    • Coenzyme Q10 enhances the heart muscle, reducing its work load
    • Hawthorn improves blood flow to the heart
